Our History
The speleologists of the "Steirisches Salzkammergut" can look back on a history of over 85 years of cave exploration activities in the region. Since then new clubs have appeared due to speleopolitics. Eventually the club changed back to the original name in 1981.
The history of karst
explorations brought a large number of discoveries, some of them like the
"Schwarzmooskogeleishöhle" were extraordinary for the time.
The "Verein für
Höhlenkunde in Obersteier" of Bad Mitterndorf still has members with over
50 years of membership. They support the younger cavers, tell them about secret
entrances discovered at a time when there where no TVs, but already caves. And
they give evidence that there might come a time when the currently active cave
explorers will be telling about secret entrances discovered at a time when there
was no "Virtual PC-Cavinging".
